Park Tennis USA's FastStart Summer Tennis Camps
A teaching Revolution Comes to Greenwich via Europe
Who says all great trends come fast? Not at Park Tennis USA. Since its inception in 2005, Greenwich-based Park Tennis USA has been a major supporter of what it calls FastStart Tennis; based upon an innovative European approach to teaching youth tennis that spawned the careers of both Roger Federer and Justine Henin.
The FastStart Approach - How it Differs from Traditional Tennis Programs
Scott Staniar, a 20 year Greenwich resident and former nationally ranked player from Yale, founded Park Tennis USA because he felt there was a better way to inspire a new generation of kids to play tennis.
"The most exciting and unique elements of FastStart tennis is our use of specifically designed tennis balls and rackets, and a curriculum which not only allows us to develop adult stroke techniques with kids, but lets them quickly experience the thrill of rallying and playing games," says Staniar, the founder and Managing Director of Park Tennis USA.
By contrast, says Staniar, regularly heavy tennis balls forces many youngsters ages 5-11 to develop "compensatory" swings for high bouncing regular tennis balls and makes rallying like the pros very difficult. "Kids do not want to stand around the drill. They want to play like the stars. One of my 9 year old students rolls up his sleeves each lesson so he can play like Rafael Nadal. We want to fuel that desire," says Staniar.
Made In Europe, Endorsed by the USTA
The U.S. tennis industry, including the USTA's Player Development Division has endorsed this approach and called it QuickStart Tennis. Staniar believes this is crucial to validating the approach, since the USTA is responsible for developing the next generation of great players. "We'd be happy developing a generation of kids who love te sport," says Staniar.
Summer Youth FastStart and Ladies Performance Tennis Clinics
Park Tennis USA will offer their popular two week FastStart Tennis Clinics for children aged 5-14 and Ladies Performance Clinics. The innovative FastStart curriculum uses a "game-based" approach endorsed by the USTA, using age-appropriate balls, rackets and court-lengths to quickly advance students from simple drilling to rallying gmes; ensuring plenty of fun, fitness and rapid improvement in students' playing abilities.
**New This Year** Ladies A/B Team Training Camps
In Mid-August, we are launching a new 1 week Ladies Performance Training camps, for those aspiring to make their fall tennis teams. The A Team is for 4.0-4.5 players. The B Team is for 3.0-3.5 players.
